I often struggle with self-censorship when I'm writing or speaking in public, for all the reasons you outline above. I have this May Sarton quote above my desk to remind me not to give in to it:

Thatβs a great quote. Especially if you know youβre holding back. I donβt even know Iβm censoring myself until Iβve been rewriting literally for years and ask for the 10th time why a section doesnβt work. Or is too convoluted. Or buried in lyricism. π€
